Artist: Dorothy Richmond (1861-1935)
Dorothy Kate Richmond emerged as an artistic luminary in Parnell, Auckland. Guided by her talented watercolourist father, she honed her skills at London's Slade School of Fine Art from 1878 to 1880. Returning to New Zealand in 1880, she was among a select few Kiwi women with formal art training. In 1890, she joined the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, later relocating to Wellington in 1894 to study under James Nairn.
Though often labeled as a preeminent floral artist, Richmond transcended stereotypes, emerging as a pivotal figure among New Zealand's early 20th-century landscape artists.
