Artist: Constant Troyon (1810-1865)

Constant Troyon, a French painter of the Barbizon school, initially focused on landscapes but later gained worldwide recognition as an animal painter. Born in Sèvres, he began as a porcelain decorator and received mentorship from Camille Roqueplan and other Barbizon painters. His breakthrough came when he discovered Dutch masters, leading to acclaim in Britain, America, and Europe.
