Dwight William Tryon, was a prominent American landscape painter of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His expertise lay in tonalism, focusing on landscapes and seascapes. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Tryon's early life was marked by the loss of his father, leading to his upbringing on his grandparents' farm in East Hartford, where his passion for art blossomed. After selling his first painting in 1870, he embarked on a full-time artistic career, later studying in France. His signature style featured middle-distance trees against radiant skies and foreground marshes, and he gained acclaim for his delicate colours and depictions of country life.
