Artist: Floris Verster (1861-1927)
Hendrik Verster, from an artistic family, trained at The Hague's Royal Academy of Art. Initially aligned with the Hague School, he later embraced vibrant still life painting influenced by French artists. A Brussels stint with avant-garde circles catalysed a bold shift in his style, marked by intense colours and rough brushstrokes. Between 1892 and 1900, he focused on crayon drawings before returning to painting. Notable works reside in his prestigious collections, yet his life ended mysteriously on January 21, 1927, when he was found deceased in a pond. To this day, nobody knows what happened.
